Born to the family of the film director and music composer Serge Gainsbourg, whose parents emigrated from Ukraine to France, and the actress and singer Jane Birkin, not less beautiful than Brigit Bardo, also Serge's mistress,

'Paradisco'

Charlotte soon followed the steps of her prominent parents preserving their ingenuity and style.

'Trick Pony'

Her first album 'Charlotte for ever' was released in her teens, later the eponympus movie was shot by her father with him and her in main roles. She performed her debute role as Catherine Deneuve's daughter in Paroles et musique (1984).

Then followed L'effrontée, La Bûche, The Cement Garden, written and directed by her uncle, Andrew Birkin, Jane Eyre, Michel Gondry's The Science of Sleep, 2006, Todd Haynes-directed Bob Dylan biopic I'm Not There, 2007, The Tree, 2010, Lars von Trier's Melancholia and 'Antichrist', for which she won Best Actress at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival.

Her last work is Confession of a Child of the Century, 2012, where she played alongside the British musician Pete Doherty, and was on the jury for the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival in February 2012.
